it eliminates the possibility of it ever getting any better.” – Unknown
Our Basketball League
The driven purpose behind the Donovan Memorial Basketball League was founded in May of 2015 by Darnell and Dionne Williams in memory of his nephew and her son. Donovan was an All-Star Athlete who was dearly loved in his community. The Williams Family and the Philadelphia “Frankford” Community gathered even the more closer when Donovan had taken his life into his own hands.
Many of his peer’s lives were devastated by this deep and sadden loss. After going through a difficult time of grievance Darnell and Dionne turned this traumatic experience into a continued ray of light; in hopes to raise awareness of behavior health problems and suicide prevention tactics. The focal point is to help encourage and change the minds of youth who struggle with the thought of giving up on living their lives to their fullest potential.
The Foundation strives to fulfill Donovan’s excellent characteristics of Good Citizenship that which he attained during many of his good days. It was his nature to play sports and to give back in his community. Our plans are to target youth who wish to improve their level of basketball skills, to empower their way of thinking through sharpening their academic and social dexterities, and to provide positive channeling resources on suicide prevention based on our devoted board of directors and the committed volunteered adults.
